The Nature Conservancy
has been working on Long Island since the early 1950s. Since that time, the
Conservancy has helped preserve thousands of acres here. Its work has evolved
from an organization whose main conservation tool was land acquisition to one
that uses a variety of approaches and works with many different partners to
protect large landscapes, seascapes, and whole functioning ecosystems. Its work
now includes efforts to protect underwater marine environments and restore populations
of shellfish, which in recent years have dramatically declined.

Pirates of the East End
During the 19th century, Sag Harbor, New York became one of the busiest ports in the northeast, where whalers of many nationalities could be seen walking the streets. In our bustling village young men from small East End towns often found work as whalers, a job that promised them the possibility of earning more money than they could make on the farm and the chance to see places they had only dreamed of or heard about from other whalers. These young local men, together with foreign whalers, brought culture and customs, stories and lore from distant lands to Sag Harbor. During this time period Sag Harbor became a truly international port town, where diverse cultures came together for one pursuit: the hunt of the mighty whale. The Sag Harbor Whaling & Historical Museum celebrates Sag Harbor's rich nautical history.

Founded in late 1994,
The South Fork Breast Health Coalition is a nonprofit grassroots organization
of concerned citizens, East End Area Office of The American Cancer Society,
SUNY Stony Brook, Southampton and other East End Town Officials. The Coalition
works closely with the Southampton Hospital Breast Center. The Coalition, along
with other breast cancer groups across Long Island is committed to finding the
answer to the high incidence of breast cancer in our area.
In addition to helping identify the causes of breast cancer, our mission is
to help educate women about the importance of self breast exams and annual mammograms
as preventative measures. Through various support programs the Coalition is
also dedicated to helping relieve the day to day pressures for breast cancer
patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy by helping them to manage
family and home commitments during this stressful period.
Our goal is to have 100% of the East End female population, age 16+ performing
self breast examinations and 100% of our female population, age 40+ receiving
annual mammograms.

The Peconic Land Trust, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was established in 1983 by John v.H. Halsey and a small group of local residents to ensure the protection of Long Island’s working farms, natural lands, and heritage. Since its inception, the Trust has worked diligently with landowners, communities, and municipalities to protect over 8,500 acres of land, conserving more working farms on Long Island than any other private conservation organization, and securing millions of dollars from the public and private sector for land protection.

Everyone in Fighting Chance has been touched by cancer.. our
staff, directors, and trained volunteers. Many of us have been core
caregivers to loved ones with disease. Some of us are cancer survivors.
Together we have a lot of practical experience
about getting through the day with cancer; about keeping the body and soul
together. We call it "Life Skills".
We were started two years ago by people on the
East End who were affected by cancer and found it
hard to organize their lives to deal the challenges of job, family,
caregivers, medications, financial pressures and in some cases just getting
to the doctor on time.
Based on our challenges and experiences we
developed a practical resource guide, "Coping with Cancer on the
East End". It is our hope that this guide can help
shepherd you through the difficult process of coping with cancer and help
you mobilize the resources you need to restore your sense of empowerment,
well-being and peace of mind.

It started with a dream.
To create a children’s museum: a magical and inviting place for young
people that would stir their curiosity and imagination. In this quickly
moving world of technology, children’s museums give families an opportunity
to slow down and actively share in their children’s growth. These wonderful
places of discovery are designed to provide interactive experiences that
foster curiosity in children and create a lifelong love of self-directed
learning. The Children's Museum of the East End (CMEE) was formed to make
this dream a reality.
In 1997, CMEE launched a pilot project exhibit to gauge community
interest in a children’s museum on the East End of Long Island. The exhibit
was built with the volunteer efforts of many talented carpenters, artists,
and educators, and the generous support of local businesses and families. In
just fourteen weeks at Guild Hall Museum in East Hampton, a record-breaking
five thousand people visited the exhibit and supported the belief that the
East End needs a children’s museum.
The 10,000 square foot facility was designed by Lee H. Skolnick
Architecture + Design Partnership. This team has created over fifty
children’s museum projects throughout the country and is responsible for the
outstanding design of the pilot project. Also contributing to the project
was renowned landscape architect Edmund Hollander.
Interactive exhibits are both permanent and rotating. The permanent
exhibit focuses on what makes the East End a special place, with an emphasis
on the people and living creatures who inhabit it. Themes include
agriculture, fishing, world celebrations, and community.
In addition to the indoor activities, visitors are encouraged to explore
outdoor exhibits, mazes and gardens. There is space for year-round
workshops, performances, and special events, as well as a permanent art
workshop for children to explore their own creativity.

The mission of the CDCH Charter School is to expand school choice and enhance educational opportunities for children and families living in East Hampton, Long Island and its neighboring communities. Our goal is to bring together all facets of the school community in a collaboration designed to promote educational excellence. The Child Development Center of the Hamptons Preschool strives to give all children the tools to learn, the confidence to reach their potential, and the courage to achieve. We believe that every child has his or her own distinct talents and abilities. Our program encourages each child to explore their world and expand their knowledge. This is accomplished in a nurturing atmosphere where teachers take an interactive role in guiding and presenting experiences and instruction. We believe that in preschool, children learn through their play. Play-based learning insures that children have fun-filled days as they acquire the necessary preschool skills.
